Equal Rights- Even during this new century, every American does not share the same rights. The “White Male Privilege” still exists, although not to the extent from years past. Minorities certainly have more opportunity, but equality is far from opportunity. Women are paid 75.5 cents on the dollar as compared to men. This figure is certainly up from years ago, but has declined from a high of 76.6 cents in 2003.
The final phase of the civil rights movement has begun for homosexual Americans, and the Democratic party thus far has failed to embrace it. The Red States are still dominating this debate, as it is considered “taboo” for any politician to speak of being for gay rights. The debate must turn in the opposite direction. Even conservatives in the younger generations are generally accepting of Gay rights. Affording every American the same, in every facet of life, should be a common sense priority in America today.
“Every American deserves the same opportunity as the next. Women deserve equal pay as men. Black Americans deserve an equal shot at success as White Americans. Homosexual Americans merit every benefit a Heterosexual American has. This does not exist, and progress must be made. ”
